Oli Thompson , Josh Burns, BKB 17

Joining Jimmy Sweeney vs. Edgar Puerta and the ‘Prize Fighter’ finals is Oli ‘The Spartan’ Thompson vs. Josh ‘The Hammer’ Burns, a heavyweight bout scheduled for June 8th at the O2 arena in London, England.

Prior to BKB 16, which took place this past weekend (March 30th), Josh Burns (4-3 in BKB) was interested in competing for the up-and-coming card taking place early June. Eager to step his foot back inside the ring, co-owners Jim Freeman Dove and Joe Smith-Brown have announced the signing of Oli Thompson (19-10 in MMA), who will be making his BKB debut under the England based promotion, squaring off with the greater experienced Burns.

Thompson, also a former Strongman competed in most notably the UFC, Bellator, KSW and BAMMA – Recently taking home a victory at ADW 5 in January of this year, technically knocking out Roman Wehbe. He is currently on a 2-fight winning streak, both ending by way of TKO.

Burns, also a Bellator veteran would go 8-10 in his mixed martial arts career. With no success in competing for Bellator and finishing his career under TWC Pro Series, Burns would shift his focus to the newly legalized sport of bare-knuckle boxing, triumphant in four of his seven outings. Burns will look to bounce back, suffering a loss due to doctor stoppage after receiving a deep eyebrow length cut above his left eye in his last bout.

BKB 17 will feature the return of the self-proclaimed “King of BKB” Jimmy Sweeney, who welcomes former WBC champion Edgar Puerta to bare-knuckle combat. The lightweight title is on the line. Also joining them is the ‘Prize Fighter’ finalists Ricardo Franco and James Connelly, who battle for the tournament title, £10,000 and the Jack Broughton trophy. The winner will face-off with the victor of Sweeney vs. Puerta.

Tickets for BKB 17 are on sale now, airing live on June 8th from the Indigo at the O2.
