Jimmy Sweeney Meets Former WBC Champion, Edgar Puerta at BKB 17

Per the BKB™ co-owners, Jim Freeman Dove and Joe Smith-Brown, June 8th will be the return date of Jimmy Sweeney (20-1 in BKB), taking on former WBC champion, Edgar Puerta (25-13-1 in boxing) for the lightweight title.

In the lead up to BKB 16 on March 30th, it was teased by the promotion that the following event would be the long-awaited return of Sweeney, ‘The King of BKB’. Last competing in November of 2018, Sweeney decided to rest for a short period of time, allowing his body to recover, as he’s been very active in his years of competition. Now ready to step his foot back into the ring, a dangerous opponent in Edgar Puerta awaits, who will be making his bare-knuckle boxing debut.

A former WBC champion and number-one ranked boxer, Edgar’s 19 of his 25 victories have come by way of knockout, and while in his more recent years of competing in professional boxing has had its fair share of ups and downs, Puerta is ready to take his boxing skillset into the ring once again, only this time without the gloves.

For years Sweeney has dominated bare-knuckle combat, his only loss to former two-time TUF contestant Julian Lane, a defeat he would later avenge. The current BKB™ lightweight, middleweight and super-middleweight champion, ‘The King of BKB’ says “these are the fights I’ve been asking for”.

“Since I've started BKB, these are the fights I’ve been asking for. Top quality ex-pro boxers and I feel these are the fights that are really gonna bring out the best of m,e and show everyone how good I really am.”

Jim Freeman Dove added: "We are not only thrilled to have Jimmy Sweeney return to the BKB ring, but also sign a great former champion. Edgar Puerta is a knockout artist, at one time a number one ranked boxer, and now he'll showcase his skills in our promotion against one of the best. We're constantly evolving, and this is just another step in that direction of growth."
