DEMOLITION man Shane McPhilbin makes a shock return to the ring this weekend – for a bareknuckle boxing fight.
The former British cruiserweight champion last fought at the Motorpoint Arena four years ago.
He was a points winner over Jody Meikle on an unlicensed show – and Meikle is behind the Bulwell fighter’s return to the ring.
Meikle fights on the successful BKB TM circuit and after he was told the promoters were looking to match Quentin Domingos, he rang McPhilbin.
“I haven’t fought for a while, but I just thought: ‘Why not ? Let’s roll the dice,’” said McPhilbin, who pays his bills working as a demolition man.
Domingos was proving hard to match.
The Frenchman has had a successful MMA career and made an explosive start to his BKB career in April, chinning Eastbourne’s Charlie Milner in the first round.
McPhilbin said: “I know he’s a come forward fighter, but I will give it a go.
“I only got the call for the fight on Tuesday night, but this might suit me.”
McPhilbin was known for having a granite chin and heavy hands throughout his pro career and added: “There’s a chance I could fight again in December.
“We will see how Saturday night goes.”
